FeatureToday inspired by

i decided to make some little paper cranes, and i started to think about the story behind these little cranes.
Sadako Sasaki was two around the time when the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan in August of 1945. She grew up strong and athletic. But at the age of 11, in 1955, while practicing for a race she became dizzy and fell. Soon after, she was diagnosed with Leukemia or "the atom bomb" disease.
Sadako's best friend told her about and old legend that said anyone who folds one thousand paper cranes will be granted one wish. She wanted to get well again so she could run again. She started working on the cranes and made as many as she could before dying on October 25, 1955 at the age of twelve.
The fact that she never gave up inspired her friends and classmates make a book of her letters and and build a monument for Sadako and all the other children killed by the atom bomb.
A statue of Sadako holding a crane was unveiled in 1958 in Hiroshima Peace Park. A wish by the children inscribed on the bottom of the statue reads:
"This is our cry, this is our prayer, peace in the world."
Today, people from all over the world make paper cranes and send them to the monument in Hiroshima.
I decided i wanted to make 1,000 cranes and send them and then as i spoke to people on DeviantArt a community that connects people from all over the world, so how about we all do this together.
I suggest that each of you makes just one cranes (i will post a tutorial at the bottom of the news article), then note me saying that you are participating so i can note down your user name and give you my address so you can send them to me and once we have 1,000 to send them to Hiroshima peace park, or Seattle peace park (a vote on which one will be on my journal page)then you can send me the cranes

Lets promote peace not only on dA but in the world.
also i suggest taking a good look at

and sumbitting to them.
Here is the crane tutorial
[link]it doesn't have to be a specific size although try not to make it too big so they attach to each other easily, maybe you could make it out of the flag of your country, or your favorite colour or maybe with some special words on it.
please join in and help promote peace around the world

In keeping with the crane project i shall feature pictures of cranes

Without a past, there can't be a future....
I've done my share of mistakes, but so what? That's what made me who I am!
There are three sides in a war. Their's, ours, and the truth...
